A MESSAGE FROM
OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Providing shelter is only the beginning.

At The Shelter Alliance, we believe ending homelessness requires more than a bed for the night. It takes compassion, guidance, and the chance to rebuild with dignity.

Having experienced housing instability myself, I understand the challenges and the strength it takes to start again. That experience fuels my passion to help others find not only shelter but hope and lasting stability.

Our goal is to open Kent County’s first year-round shelter, a place of rest, restoration, and wraparound support that helps break the cycle of homelessness. Together, we can build a community where everyone has a place to belong and the resources to thrive.

OUR MISSION

We are dedicated to ending homelessness in Kent County by working together with the community to compassionately empower at-risk individuals and families through emergency and transitional shelter, comprehensive care, and guidance.

WHO WE ARE

The Shelter Alliance is a nonprofit organization committed to ending homelessness in Kent County, Maryland. Founded in 2023, we serve as a bridge between individuals in need and the resources that lead to lasting housing stability.

We provide emergency and transitional housing, case management, and holistic support services. Our goal is to not only meet immediate needs but to address the root causes of homelessness. Through collaboration with local agencies, churches, and community leaders we empower individuals and families to rebuild their lives with dignity, hope, and purpose.

As a component fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, The Shelter Alliance is dedicated to establishing Kent County’s first year-round, low-barrier shelter, offering wraparound services that promote healing, growth, and reintegration into the community.

OUR VISION

To foster a community that ensures no one spends a night on the streets, in a car, or in the woods due to lack of housing,  and where every person has the skills, opportunities, and support to fully reintegrate into society.

our programs

emergency shelter

Our Emergency Shelter Program provides immediate, safe, and temporary housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Kent County.

Through partnerships with local motels and service providers, The Shelter Alliance ensures that every person in crisis has access to a clean, secure place to stay while long-term solutions are developed.

This program operates as a low-barrier model, welcoming individuals regardless of background, criminal history, or challenges with substance use. While housed, participants receive compassionate support, access to meals and essential resources, and connection to next-step services that lead toward stability and permanent housing.

case management

Our Case Management Program offers personalized support to help individuals and families move from crisis to independence. Each client is paired with a dedicated case manager who works alongside them to identify needs, set achievable goals, and create a plan toward self-sufficiency.

Case managers assist with housing applications, employment readiness, financial literacy, and referrals for health, mental-health, and substance-use services. This one-on-one approach ensures that every participant is seen, heard, and guided toward long-term success.

At The Shelter Alliance, case management is more than a service -- it’s a partnership in rebuilding lives and restoring hope.
